Czech's Katerina Emmons won the 1st Gold of the 2008 Beijing Olympic
The honor of winning the first Gold medal of ongoing 2008 Beijing Olympic Games goes to Katerina Emmons of the Czech Republic on Saturday, 9th August, 2008, when she won the Women's 10m Air Rifle.24 year old Katerina Emmons, was in great form, breaking Olympic records in both the qualification and final rounds. Emmons shot a perfect 400, in the qualification round, which equaled World Record and set a new record in Olympic games. The previous Olympic Record was 399.
In the final round of the event Emmons shot 103.5, giving her a final score of 503.5, which over passed the previous record of 502.0 set by China's Du Li at Athens 2004.
Lioubov Galkina of Russia won the Silver medal and Bronze medal won by Croatia's Snjezana Pejcic, shot total scores of 502.1 and 500.9 respectively.
Athens 2004 gold medalist Du Li of China finished fifth with a total score of 499.6 and World No. 1 Sonja Pfeilschifter of Germany disappointed by her performance as she missed out on making the final round.
Katerina Emmons booked her name in the history as a 1st Gold winner of 2008 Beijing Olympics. Congratulation Emmons!
