Boxing QF Result - India's Akhil Kumar out of Beijing Olympics

India's another hope was out of Beijing 2008 Olympics as boxer Akhil Kumar was beaten by Moldova's GOJAN Veaceslav in the quarter finals of Men's Bantam in 54kg category on Monday, 18th August, 2008.

Akhil Kumar fought well in the first 2 rounds as scores are equal with 1-1 in both the rounds, however he lost his concentration in 3rd and 4th rounds and lost the rounds by 4-0 and 4-1 respectively.

Final score of the match was 10-3 in the favour of Moldova's GOJAN Veaceslav.

India's other matches will be held on Wednesday, 20th August, 2008 in boxing.

Swimming legend American Michael Phelps created history as he won record 8th Gold medal in the Men's 4 x 100m Medley Relay final on Sunday, 17th August, 2008 at the National Aquatics Center in a record time of 3:29.34, breaking the world record by 1.34 seconds.

This is the all time record in Olympic History to win 8 Gold medals in a single Olympic games. The previous record was set 36 years ago by Mark Spitz in the 1972 Munich Olympics.



Michael Phelps with US team mates Aaron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen and Jason Lezak lead the race from start to finish as they are defending Olympic champions and world record holder in Men's 4 x 100m Medley Relay.

Peirsol gave US team a great start with a 53.16sec split. Team mate Hansen increased the lead on the world record split taking it 0.39 seconds under at the race's halfway mark. Brenton Rickard swam his breaststroke leg in 58.56 and the Phelps finished the final leg ahead of Australian team.

The Australian team of Hayden Stoeckel, Andrew Lauterstein, Rickard and Sullivan finished 0.70 seconds behind the US to win silver in an Oceania record 3:30.04, also under the old world record.

Japan's team of Miyashita Junichi, Kitajima Kosuke, Fujii Takuro and Sato Hisayoshi took bronze in an Asian record 3:31.18. Russia finished fourth in a European record 3:31.92.

America's Golden Boy Michael Phelps equaled the 36 year old record of Mark Spitz's seven Golds in a single Olympics, as he won his 7th Gold medal of the Beijing 2008 Olympic, by a margin of just .01 of second in the 100m butterfly on Saturday, 16th August at the Water Cube.

Michael Phelps edged out Serbian Milorad cavic and the Serbian federation filed a written protest to FINA, swimming's world governing body, but replays showed clearly showed thad Phelps had won the race and Serbian officials agreed not to pursue it further.


Michael Phelps won in an Olympic record time of 50.58, the slimmest time margin of 0.01 seconds. Cavic touched first on the 50m mark at 0.09sec under the world record. He looked to be behind Cavic in the final meters but got to the wall first in 50.58 to Cavic's 50.59. Australia's Andrew Lauterstein won the bronze medal in 51.12.

Phelps equaled 36-year-old record of Mark Spitz from the 1972 Munich Olympics. Phelps will try to beat Spitz's record in the 4x100m medley relay Sunday in the final day of swimming in Beijing.

After breaking the record of highest number of individual Golds in Olympics history, Michael Phelps is going closer to another record of winning 8 Golds in a single olympic as he won sixth Gold in 200M Individual Medley, on Friday, 15th August, 2008 at the National Aquatics Center, Beijing.

Michael Phelps set another World record on his way to win sixth gold, improving his own record by 0.57 seconds. He comfortably touch the finishing line in 1:54.23.

Hungarian Laszlo Cseh put in another brilliant performance, again edging out Phelps' teammate Ryan Lochte to win the silver medal in a European record time of 1:56.52.




Michael Phelps is only 2 golds away for making another history, so hope he will make his dream in coming days.

Bindra won first ever individual Gold for India in 10M Air Rifle

World Champion Abhinav Bindra creates history for India as he won the first ever individual Gold medal for India in men's 10-meter Air Rifle event in Beijing on Monday, 11th August, 2008, the 3rd day of 2008 Beijing Olympic.

The 25 year old, Bindra qualified fourth for the event, shot an overall score of 700.5 in a thrilling finale which went right down to the last shot. Bindra had shot a total of 596 out of 600, shooting a perfect 100 in 3 of the 6 rounds of the qualifiers.


In ten rounds, Bindra shot 10.7, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.5, 10.5, 10.6, 10.0, 10.2, 10.8 to clinch the first berth. China's Qinan Zhu won silver while Finland's Henri Hakkinen won bronze.

Bindra's historic feat makes him India's first-ever individual gold medallist, bettering the silver medal feat of double trap shooter Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore in Athens 2004.

On the 2nd day of 2008 Beijing Olympics American Swimming sensation Michael Phelp set a new World record on Sunday, 10th August, 2008 after winning the first of a potential eight Gold medals.

Phelps, wearing the new form-fitting Speedo LZR Racer swimsuit, launched an American charge to compete with the host China in the medal race. Michael Phelp successfully opened his bid to break Mark Spitz's 35-year record of seven golds at one Games by winning the men's 400m individual medley.

With US President George W. Bush applauding in the stands, Phelps carved 1.41 seconds off his mark of 4:05.25 set last June.
