All About Beijing 2008 Olympic Games - Introduction of Beijing 2008

The 2008 Summer Olympics, will be held in Beijing, People's Republic of China, and named as "Beijing 2008 Olympic Games". The tournament will start from 8th August, 2008 to 24th August, 2008. Around 10,500 athletes are expected to compete in 302 events in 28 sports.

Beijing was awarded 2008 Olympics on 13th July, 2001, after beating Paris, Toronto, Istanbul and Osaka. Beijing got 44 votes in 1st round and and 56 votes in the 2nd round to won host nation by absolute majority. This is XXIX Olympiad.

The official logo of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, titled "Dancing Beijing" features a stylized calligraphic character "Jing" ( meaning capital), referencing the host city. The mascots of Beijing 2008 are the "five Fuwa", each representing both a color of the Olympic rings and a symbol of Chinese culture. The Olympic slogan, "One World, One Dream", calls upon the world to unite in the Olympic spirit.

A total of 37 venues will be used to host the events including 12 newly constructed venues.
